Modified bass method implementation using audio-tactile- performance technique for improving oral hygiene status of visually impaired people; Implementación del método bass modificado utilizando la técnica de audio-táctil-desempeño para mejorar la higiene bucal en personas con discapacidad visual.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of Modified Bass method implementation through ATPtechnique (audio, tactile, performance) with institutionalized visually impaired individuals in Pereira, Colombia. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was carry out, non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used. People with total and partial visual impairment were invited to participate, people with prostheses were excluded. A survey and a checklist were used and simplified oral hygiene index (IHOS) was calculated, they were applied before and after a three-session educational intervention in which Modified Bass method was taught using ATP. Statistical analysis was performed through univariate analysis (medians, interquartile ranges, proportions) andbivariate (Chi Square, Fisher’s Exact Test). Results: 15 people between 19 and 70 years old participated. In the pre-intervention measurement 86.7% brushed their teeth alone, 80% brushed their teeth 3 or more times a day, 53.3% did not have autonomy to deposit the cream on the brush, and 33.3% did not brush their tongue. In postintervention measurement the data for the same variables were 100%, 93.3%, 100% and 93.3% respectively. The IHOS median before and after the intervention were 4 and 0.06 with an interquartile range of 3.6–6 and 0.5–1.3, respectively; the difference was statistically significant (p <0.001).Conclusions: The teaching of Modified Bass method with ATP was effective, which is evidenced in plaque index reduction and the improvement in other variables.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of tranexamic acid in reducing perioperative bleedingin liposuction and abdominoplasty.Introduction: Liposuction and abdominoplasty are two of the most common aesthetic surgeries done in the world. One of the most frequent complications of these procedures is the perioperative blood loss, which has negative effects on the recovery of the patients after de surgery. For this reason, it is important to search for new possibilities that reduce blood loss during this type of surgery. Methods: We present a retrospective case series report in which 1 gram of tranexamic acid was applied to a group of patients before the surgery. Later we reviewed and compared an hemogram taken before and after the surgery. Additionally, we evaluate if the patients required transfusion of blood after the procedure. Results: A population of 37 female patients was obtained. None of the patients presented a postsurgical hemoglobin lower than 8 g/dl nor required transfusion of blood products after surgery. A Spearman correlation was performed between the variables, in which there was no evidence of an association between lipoaspirate and hemoglobin or postoperative hematocrit. Conclusion: The tranexamic acid is a drug that can be useful for reducing perioperative blood loss in liposuction and abdominoplasty, because none of the patients involved in the required transfusion of red blood cells.; Objetivo: Evaluar la efectividad del ácido tranexámico en reducir el sangrado perioperatorio en liposucción y abdominoplastia.
