dc.descriptionThe family Heterenchelyidae groups the so-called mud eels, highly modified fishes that live buried. The Pacific mud eel Pythonichthys asodes, the only Pacific member of its family, is characterized for having a head-trunk length 22-27 % of total length. The species was described from on the basis of 23 individuals collected in the Gulf of Panamá. It was later reported from for the northern Central American waters (El Salvador and Costa Rica) as well as from the central Sinaloa coast in Mexico. Therefore, this is the first report from the South American (Colombia) coast, based on five specimens collected in Bahía Málaga. en-US
dc.descriptionLa familia Heterenchelyidae agrupa a las llamadas anguilas de fango, peces altamente modificados que viven enterrados. Entre estos, se encuentra Pythonichthys asodes, una especie que, entre otros aspectos, tiene una longitud cabeza-tronco que representa entre 22 % y 27 % de la longitud total. Esta especie, fue descrita a partir de 23 individuos encontrados en el Golfo de Panamá. Posteriormente, registrada en aguas de El Salvador y Costa Rica y años más tarde encontrada en la costa central de Sinaloa en México. Esta nota revela el primer registro para Colombia y el Pacífico suramericano con base en cinco individuos colectados en Bahía Málaga (Valle del Cauca). es-ES
