dc.descriptionThe José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden of Bogota was planned by Enrique Pérez Arbeláez since his doctorate at the Botanical Institute located in the Münich Botanical Garden between 1926 and 1927. However, it only began its construction in its current location in 1955. Since Father Enrique Pérez was a fundamental part of the development of the Ciudad Universitaria de Bogotá at the end of the 40s, we decided to check if the development of this garden was planned there. The relevant historical literature and architectural plans and images of the Botanical Garden of Bogotá were reviewed from its initial proposal by José Celestino Mutis at the end of the 19th century and during the 20th century. A volumetric reconstruction of the Casa de la Botánica and the Botanical Garden proposed by Mutis was carried out, which also functioned at the beginning of the republican period. It was found that between 1937 and 1940 there was an incipient botanical garden associated with the Botanical Institute founded by Pérez Arbelaez at the National University of Colombia. This garden did not have continuity, but when the Institute of Natural Sciences moved to a new building in 1950, the architect Leopoldo Röther again designed a botanical garden around it. For the third time, in 1966 the construction of a Botanical Garden was planned around the new building of the Museum of Natura l History. en-US
dc.descriptionEl Jardín Botánico de Bogotá José Celestino Mutis fue proyectado por Enrique Pérez Arbeláez desde que realizó su doctorado en el Instituto Botánico ubicado en el Jardín Botánico de Münich entre 1926 y 1927. Sin embargo, solo comenzó a construirse en su localización actual en el año 1955. Dado que el padre Enrique Pérez hizo parte fundamental del desarrollo de la Ciudad Universitaria de Bogotá a finales de los años 40s, nos propusimos revisar si en ésta se planeó dicho Jardín. Se revisó la literatura histórica relevante, así como planos e imágenes del Jardín Botánico de Bogotá, desde su propuesta inicial por parte de José Celestino Mutis a finales del siglo XIX y durante el siglo XX. Se realizó una reconstrucción volumétrica de la Casa de la Botánica y del Jardín Botánico propuesto por Mutis y que también funcionó al inicio del período republicano. Se encontró que entre 1937 y 1940, existió un jardín botánico incipiente asociado al Instituto Botánico fundado por Pérez Arbeláez en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Dicho jardín no tuvo continuidad, pero al trasladarse el Instituto de Ciencias Naturales a un nuevo edificio en 1950, el arquitecto Leopoldo Röther proyectó nuevamente un jardín botánico alrededor de éste. Por tercera vez, en 1966 se plantéo la construcción de un Jardín Botánico alrededor del nuevo edificio del Museo de Historia Naturales-ES
