Diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCL) correspond to a heterogeneous set of tumors; High-grade B lymphomas were included as a diagnosis in World Health Organization 2016 (WHO 2016), where a poor prognosis has been described, but some chemotherapy has shown the improve of the survival rate (1). Epidemiology has been studied in the United States and Europe; in Colombia there are no related works that include cytogenetics studies. The histopathological diagnosis begins with histology where the morphology is evaluated, then there is the immunohistochemistry that phenotypes the tumor cells; finally, in specific cases, molecular tests are performed that will give the definitive diagnosis, identifying chromosomical rearrangements for the MYC, BCL-2 and BCL-6 genes and may show other alterations depending on the technique used (2). The main idea of this work consisted on the description of the demographic characteristics, morphology, immunohistochemical characteristics, and cytogenetic findings, which allow to guide pathologists in their routine diagnosis. The selected population were all those patients diagnosed with LBDCG in the pathology laboratory of the Central Military Hospital; these population variables such as age, gender, anatomical site of diagnosis, histopathological variant, site of origin of the cell, gene expression by immunohistochemistry for c-Myc, BCL-2 and BCL-6 and chromosomal rearrangements of IGH - MYC, IGH - BCL2 and BCL 6, were evaluated. The results obtained for this population (39 patients) show that this disease is more prevalent in men, in an age range between 32 and 88 years, in its morphology the centroblastic variant predominates, and by immunohistochemistry the non-centrogerminal ones are more frequent. In cytogenetics, a double hit case and also, five cases with other alterations such as amplifications, deletions and isolated translocations that do not constitute high-grade cases were found. To conclude, it is important to involve cytogenetic studies to make adequate diagnoses so that patients can receive an accurate treatment and be able to define the prognosis. The tests are integrative, they are not mutually exclusive and they require the whole context to reach the final diagnosis. This work is a first approach that explores a small group of patients, studies with a larger number of patients and that include clinical characteristics are required to gain a deeper understanding of these lymphomas in the Colombian population.
