dc.descriptionViruses cause significant  morbidity and mortality, an experience that has manifested itself throughout history. A specific case is AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) caused by HIV, which becomes deadly without  proper treatment. Other serious diseases such as hepatitis or encephalitis are also caused by viruses. In this context, the recurrence of viral diseases in tropical countries is threatening to become pandemics, specifically the fevers of Zika and Chikungunya. Among the most affected countries in South America are Brazil and Colombia, hence the need to carry out a review to show the number of people affected, the symptoms and the treatments performed, highlighting what remains to be determined of these diseases. dc.descriptionLos virus causan importante morbilidad y mortalidad, experiencia que se ha manifestado a través de la historia. Un caso específico es el SIDA (Síndrome de Inmune Deficiencia Adquirida), causado por el VIH, que llega a ser mortal sin tratamiento adecuado, Otras enfermedades graves como hepatitis o encefalitis son también causadas por virus. En este contexto llama la atención la reaparición de enfermedades virales en países tropicales, amenazando con convertirse en pandemias, específicamente las fiebres del Zika y Chikungunya. Entre los países más afectados de América del Sur  destacan Brasil y Colombia, de ahí la necesidad de realizar una revisión para evidenciar el número de afectados, la sintomatología y los tratamientos realizados, resaltando lo que falta por determinar de estas enfermedades. Se analizaron las acciones preventivas propuestas por la Organización mundial de la Salud y el Instituto Nacional de Salud y se revisaron los avances en el desarrollo de vacunas efectivas.es-ES
