Introduction: The high costs of medicines make it necessary to consider the use of generic drugs to reduce the financial impact on health systems, often mistrusting the quality of the generic product, this study seeks to assess the perception of the personnel in charge of the dispensing of medicines on the subject. Methods: 42 dispensers of drugstores were interviewed. An observational descriptive study with a transversal design was carried out. A mixed questionnaire called PAMPEFG-01 was used. Results: It was found that most druggists usually recommend generic medications and have a good knowledge of the generic concept. 38.1% of them confuse generic medicine and essential medication and 52.4% consider that generics do not have bioequivalence with the original medicines. 69% of drug users do not believe that generics lead to therapeutic failure and 83.3% do not agree that generics are said to increase undesirable effects. Druggists believe that patients value generics little. Conclusions: Results of this study suggest that it is necessary to insist on greater disclosure and training to health personnel and users on the benefits of the use of generic drugs.en-US
