dc.description	represented 20% of the gross internal product on the average only, it is possibly the most important component in the added demand of the economy, not only of Colombia, but of any country. Starting from the above-mentioned, it is understood that the capital goods acquired by means of investment have a great impact in the productive capacity of long term of an economy. Moreover, the demand for investment affects the industries that produce this type of goods, and therefore to the employment and the earnings of the workers, not only of this sector, but of the economy in its group. It is for this reason that it is of great interest to analyze the determinants that affect the decision of investing on the part of a company and in that degree to make it that ultimately, it is such a situation the one in charge of impacting in the capital accumulation. The present investigation examines the main theories from the investment to micro-economic level, without forget, macroeconomic aspects that affect this decision. With the intention of contrasting these theories empirically, a model of data panel is considered with the purpose of determining which variables affected the choosing of the investment level on the part of the companies for Colombia from 1995 through 2007. dc.description	Aunque en los últimos quince años la inversión en activos fijos en Colombia ha representado en promedio tan sólo el 20% del producto interno bruto, es posiblemente el componente más importante de la demanda agregada de la economía, no sólo de Colombia sino de cualquier país. A partir de lo anterior, se entiende que los bienes de capital adquiridos mediante inversión tienen un gran impacto en la capacidad productiva de largo plazo de una economía. Además, la demanda por inversión afecta las industrias que producen este tipo de bienes, y por lo tanto al empleo y a los ingresos de los trabajadores, no sólo de este sector sino de la economía en su conjunto. Por esto resulta de gran interés analizar los determinantes que afectan la decisión de invertir por parte de una firma y en qué grado hacerlo, que en última instancia, es tal situación la encargada de impactar en la acumulación de capital. La presente investigación examina las principales teorías de la inversión microeconómica, sin dejar de lado aspectos macroeconómicos que afectan esta decisión. Con la intención de contrastar empíricamente estas teorías, se estima un modelo de datos panel con el fin de determinar qué variables afectaron la escogencia del nivel de inversión por parte de las firmas para Colombia durante el período 1995-2007.
